The open source image editing program Gimp has been available on Mac OS X for a while. But you always needed to install the X11 window environment to run it. That has changed: It can now be donwloaded as a native application. Tips:

  • With the default settings, Gatekeeper prevents you from opening the app. You can temporarily circumvent Gatekeeper by using the context menu’s “Open” command.
  • Switch on the single-window mode: Menu command “Windows → Single-Window Mode”.
